After a respite of four years, air traffic in German airspace exceeded the three-million mark in 2015. DFS air traffic controllers handled exactly 3,029,066 flights under instrument flight rules. This represents an increase of 1.6 percent over the previous year.
The number of military flights went down to only 45,668 (2014: 47,502). This corresponds to a decrease of 3.9 percent over the previous year. 2013 was the only year with even less military traffic in German airspace.
Controlled flights basically mean more or less all scheduled, charter and cargo flights. They are guided by air traffic control from the moment they take off until the moment they land.
