24.02.2021 - Implementation Paperless Stripsystem (PSS)

Implementation of the Paperless Strip System (PSS) at the control workstations for the airspaces in the sectors of Düsseldorf (EDDL), Mönchengladbach (EDLN) and Niederrhein (EDLV) airports.

Following the successful implementation of the Paperless Strip System (PSS) in large areas of the Control Centre Langen the system will now also be introduced in the sectors around and above Düsseldorf, Mönchengladbach and Niederrhein airports on the night of 05/06 March 2021. With this step, the PSS implementation will be completed throughout DFS. As of the commissioning date, there will be a reduction of the regular capacity values in the affected area during the first few days. Any necessary control measures will be decided on a situational basis and reduced to a minimum. However, due to the current low traffic figures, which are significantly below the aforementioned regular capacity values, we do not currently expect any restrictions for air traffic.

Explanations on PSS:

With the commissioning of PSS in Langen, the previously produced paper control strips will be replaced by flight strips in electronic form. This will enable fully computerised/supported processing of the control strips at the Langen Centre. The PSS, which is part of the current air traffic control system, is a consistent and supporting element with a focus on future ATS systems.
