Flight inspection of the instrument landing system (ILS)

In the period from 15 to 16 November 2021, calibration flights will be conducted on the northern runway 26 R of Munich Airport. Pilots approaching the northern runway from the east use this system.

16.11.2021.- The calibrations will begin at night from around 22:00 hrs and last until approximately 03:00 hrs on the following day. Should there be any delays due to technical reasons or the weather, the calibration flights will have to be continued until the required results are available.
Calibration flights after midnight will be restricted to a minimum. As far as the specified flight profiles permit, overflights of built-up areas should be avoided.
The instrument landing system provides navigational support for pilots during approach. The basic principle is that transmitters on the ground electronically define the approach course and glide path angle. The transmitted signals are received in the aircraft and displayed to the pilot in the cockpit.
 
Only by means of extensive calibrations, which are prescribed at regular intervals, can it be ensured that the instrument landing system provides the required precision.
The planned inspection is therefore necessary for a safe, orderly and expeditious handling of air traffic.
