Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)

DFS has concluded grant agreements with the European Commission to implement SESAR through the EU funding instrument Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). (SESAR stands for Single European Sky ATM Research.) The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is the European Union's infrastructure funding programme. This programme prioritises the financing of European infrastructure, or trans-European networks (TEN), and covers telecommunications, energy and transport. It is the central funding instrument of the EU to promote the implementation of integrated political objectives at European level to realise an optimised and integrated trans-European transport network. The goal is to generate economic growth, create jobs and boost Europe's competitiveness. For the funding period 2014 to 2020, EUR 22.4 billion has been made available for the transport sector, mostly in the form of competitive calls for proposals.

DFS has concluded two types of grant agreements with the EU to implement SESAR. Firstly, there are grant agreements covering the implementation of 'common projects' concluded with the SESAR Deployment Manager as coordinator. DFS has also concluded direct agreements with the EU through the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) for SESAR implementation projects. These do not require coordination with the SESAR Deployment Manager and therefore fall under 'other projects' rather than common projects.
