Automatic reception and assessment of aircraft-derived data relevant to ATM

For the DFS project AMOR (Airborne Collision Avoidance System Monitor), a nationwide monitoring system with a total of nine sensor sites has been installed since 2009. These allow data to be received on the ground from appropriately equipped aircraft in the case of an ACAS resolution advisory.

A noteworthy side effect is the nationwide capturing of aircraft by means of automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B).  This makes the network the most comprehensive non-radar-based surveillance system within DFS, i.e. a fully functional prototype of a nationwide surveillance system of the next generation. Alongside the purely technical side, it also assesses and visualises these data. The foundations for this work were laid in a project of the third German aeronautical research programme. The results are also being incorporated into the EU SESAR programme. This is a demonstration of the successful linkage of national and European research activities.
