Operational Concepts & Planning
Airspace structures and procedures tend to remain the same for years if not decades. Existing structures, however, often fail to meet new requirements. This leads to inefficient air traffic management. With over 2.9 million flights per year, DFS manages one of the busiest airspaces in the world. Our aim is to manage traffic efficiently, while sustaining a high level of safety. Decades of experience have helped us to optimise our day-to-day activities and streamline our processes. New control centres and towers have been put into operation, accompanied by a smooth transition from out-of-date technology to advanced systems. DFS was the first organisation in the world to integrate civil and military regional air traffic control. One of the main benefits of this integration is flexible airspace management for both civil and military users. Our team provides outstanding know-how in the following areas:
- Operational concepts and requirements
- Planning of ATS routes and design of airspace structures
- Civil-military concepts
- Capacity analysis and simulations
- Delay monitoring and delay analysis
- Operational transition planning and familiarisation training
