Traffic development

After the dramatic decrease in the year 2009, air traffic rose again last year. Air traffic controllers of DFS handled 2.97 million flights in German airspace.

In 2010, DFS controlled 2,971,375 IFR flights to be exact. This corresponds to an increase of 1.5 percent and represents a slight recovery after the historic slump of 7.1 percent in traffic figures the year before – the highest traffic decrease ever recorded by DFS. Civil air traffic increased by 1.9 percent to 2.91 million (2009: 2.86 million) whereas military flights decreased by 14.4 percent to 62,305 (2009: 72,755).

Controlled flights mean more or less all scheduled, charter and cargo flights. They are guided by air traffic control from the moment they take off until the moment they land.
