Punctuality
Next to safety, punctuality is a decisive quality indicator for DFS. Bearing this in mind, the development of punctuality figures over the past few years has been good news for the air navigation services and airlines. There has been a sustained improvement in punctuality. In the year 2010 again, more than 90 percent of all flights reached their destinations without any delays. There are two main reasons for this improvement in punctuality even though the number of aircraft movements remained at about the same level: the reorganisation of German airspace in April 2001 and the continuous optimisation of existing routes and procedures. DFS defines as delay-free those flights which have less than a 15-minute delay under the control of the air navigation services.
| Year | IFR aircraft movements | Percentage of punctual flights | | 2010 | 2,971,000 | 90.4% | | 2009 | 2,927,000 | 94.0% | | 2008 | 3,150,000 | 93.6% | | 2007 | 3,115,000 | 96.3% | | 2006 | 2,983,000 | 97.3% | | 2005 | 2,866,000 | 97.0% | | 2004 | 2,719,000 | 96.4% | | 2003 | 2,548,000 | 94.9% | | 2002 | 2,488,000 | 95.9% | | 2001 | 2,561,000 | 90.8% | | 2000 | 2,584,000 | 90.3% |
