The new millennium
DFS voted the best air navigation services organisation in the world In 2000, the International Air Transport Association IATA presented DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH with the Eagle Award, the most prestigious award to be bestowed on an air navigation services organisation. The Eagle Award is presented each year to an airport operator or air navigation services organisation for providing outstanding high-quality services for its customers. Double anniversary The 50th anniversary of German air navigation services and the 10th anniversary of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH in 2003 came at a difficult economic time. The aviation industry was experiencing a structural crisis. However, experts expect a recovery of the industry in the medium term and renewed growth in air traffic. The challenges of the new millennium – for both Germany and Europe – will therefore be to maintain safety, enhance capacity and reduce noise. Single European Sky: Europe becomes one With the Single European Sky initiative, the European Commission aims to establish cross-border airspaces and to certify air navigation service providers. DFS is also committed to achieving these aims and has already begun to develop innovative procedures and systems for the future of Europe.
