New Berlin airspace structure as of 3 June
Current ICAO aeronautical chart section
20 April 2012.- A new airspace structure will enter into effect with the start of operations of the two parallel runways at the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport and the simultaneous closure of Tegel Airport on 3 June 2012. Airspace Class C has been adapted to account for the new airport with its new arrival, departure and radar-vectoring routes. A downloadable version of the updated section of the ICAO aeronautical chart – a version for gliders is also available – can be accessed here at the website of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung. Some portions of the lower limit of airspace Class C were raised while others had to be lowered. Airspace Class E was also changed to account for the new airport structure. The control zone, which until now included both Tegel and Schönefeld Airports, has now been reduced to include just Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Only two compulsory reporting points remain for VFR flights: the southerly VFR reporting point Mike, which is located at the A13 motorway southwest of the town of Königs-Wusterhausen; the northerly reporting point November, which is situated between the Berlin city districts of Tempelhof und Neukölln. The ICAO chart for Berlin which was released in March will not be reissued in 2012. Instead, anyone who purchases the Berlin chart from the DFS Aviation Shop (www.dfs-aviationshop.de) as of mid-May will also receive the chart section with the changes. An electronic version of the ICAO edition for powered aircraft and gliders is available free of charge at www.dfs.de under "Pilots and Operations". Additionally, DFS will publish the changes in the form of a chart section in the Aeronautical Information Circular together with the amendments to the German Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) IFR and VFR. At the same date, the procedures for VFR pilots arriving at Berlin Brandenburg Airport will be published in the German AIP VFR. Please contact nanda.geelvink@dfs.de for digital images.
