Flight inspection at Frankfurt Airport to continue
Noise disturbances possible
15 December 2011.- In the period from 15 to 18 December 2011, calibration flights will be conducted at Frankfurt Airport. The flight inspections which had been announced earlier this month were not completed by 11 December. The accuracy of the instrument landing system for runway northwest is being inspected for the landing directions 25 (in use with westerly winds) and 07 (easterly winds). The calibration aircraft being used is a twin-turboprop Beechcraft Super King Air 350. During this time, additional noise disturbance is to be expected. In principle, a night curfew applies at Frankfurt Airport from 23:00 to 5:00 hrs and no flights are allowed. However, flights for technical checks, such as calibration flights, are permitted during the night so that there is no negative impact on regular operations during the day. The calibration of technical facilities, such as instrument landing systems, is indispensable for the safety of air traffic. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by such flights. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the German air navigation service provider, is a State-owned company under private law and has 6,000 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual flow of air traffic over Germany. Staff coordinate up to 10,000 aircraft movements in German airspace every day, and nearly three million movements every year. In addition, DFS is represented in the Eurocontrol Centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and in the control towers of the 16 international German airports.
