DFS is once again instituting legal proceedings following the renewed call to strike
The company regrets the rejection of negotiations
8 August 2011.- DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, the German air navigation service provider, is applying for an interim injunction following a renewed call to strike made by the German air navigation services union (GdF). The company has filed an expedited application to prevent the strike at the labour court in Frankfurt. The hearing will probably take place today. DFS continues to be of the opinion that various demands made by the union are illegal as they contradict the principle of equal treatment and anti-discrimination law. "Our legal interpretation of the strike has not changed since the last expedited application and we would have liked to have avoided a return to the courts", said Jens Bergmann, Managing Director Finance and Human Resources of DFS. "This is why we very much regret the decision of the union to decline our offer of talks that we made last Friday. The union continues to pursue a policy of irresponsible escalation rather than a return to reason – disregarding the imminent losses for travellers and airlines". Last Friday, DFS made proposals for times when both parties could return to the negotiating table in the short term. One time could have been as early as today, Monday. The company showed its willingness to discuss solutions to individual elements of the disputed collective agreement on the grading system. The air navigation services union (GdF) continues to categorically reject a return to talks and has announced renewed industrial action. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the German air navigation service provider, is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,900 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual flow of air traffic over Germany. Staff coordinate up to 10,000 aircraft movements in German airspace every day, and nearly three million movements every year. This makes Germany the country with the highest traffic volume in Europe. DFS operates control centres in Langen, Bremen, Karlsruhe and Munich. In addition, DFS is represented in the Eurocontrol Centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and in the control towers of the 16 international German airports. DFS provides training and consultancy services around the world and develops and sells air traffic management systems. The company's portfolio also comprises flight-relevant data, aeronautical publications and aeronautical information services. DFS has the following business units: Control Centre, Tower, Aeronautical Solutions and Aeronautical Information Management.
