Test run at Frankfurt tower

Evaluation of the coordination of arrival and departure procedures

On Tuesday, 26 October 2010, the German air navigation service provider, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, is investigating how best to coordinate the arrival and departure procedures when runway northwest is put into operation. This investigation is being conducted with the airport operator Fraport and the airlines.

The test will be run between 12:30 and 15:30 hrs. When runway 25 is in use (westerly weather pattern), all departures to the north, northwest and southwest during this period will be guided via the night flight routes departing from runway 25 right (green arrows on the chart). The air traffic volume on this route will increase significantly compared to normal daily operations. DFS kindly asks all residents for their understanding and would like to point out that the scenario being tested does not necessarily reflect the routing and traffic volume after the expansion of Frankfurt Airport. Instead, the aim is to gain initial experience with new operational processes.

Departures to the south and southeast will be guided from runway 18 (orange arrow on the chart). As a rule, landings are planned for runway 25 left (red arrow on the chart).

If the test cannot be run as scheduled on 26 October due to poor visibility or unfavourable wind conditions, the alternative date is set for 28 October 2010.

A chart depicting the operations can be found here.
