PPL question catalogue now revised

The revised PPL question catalogue 2009 to prepare students for the examination to obtain a private pilot licence is due to be released on 1 August as a book and on CD-ROM. The book was published by the company Friedrich Schiffmann, while the CD-ROM was released by Peters Software. Both products can be ordered at www.dfs-aviationshop.de or from other distributors of aeronautical products. The catalogue was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs.

The German Aero Club (DAeC) coordinated the revision of the questions. Hermann Kleber, coordinator of the DAeC working groups, emphasised that “many of the comments made by student pilots, flight training centres and examination authorities were taken into account”.

In addition to the examination questions for the licenses PPL-A, -C, -D, -E and PPL-A national (PPL-N), this new edition also comprises questions for controlled visual flights (KS/CVFR). Furthermore, in terms of balloon flights a difference is now made between questions concerning gas and hot-air balloons (DB/DH).

DFS has attached to the question catalogue four large sections of the Aeronautical Chart ICAO 1:500 000. They can be used for learning about flight planning and navigation, covering questions which are asked in the exams. The CD-ROM contains the charts as pdf documents that can be printed out. In addition, this new version again displays different visual approach and aerodrome charts from the AIP VFR.

The printed version costs 49 Euro, while the CD-ROM costs 98 Euro.
