At the ILA 2008, experts present new online products and aeronautical publications

We would like to invite you to visit DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung at stand 8212 in hall 8 at this year's International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) in Berlin from 27 May to 1 June. In addition to presenting the air navigation services, our experts will answer your questions about our aeronautical information publications and aeronautical information services. Furthermore, they will explain the new pre-flight information service functionalities that have been added to the AIS Portal (www.dfs-ais.de)

At the Internet terminal, visitors can learn more about the online services of DFS such as the AIS Portal, the VFReBulletin showing the relevant NOTAM for VFR flights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on a chart, and the DFS Aviation Shop where you can purchase aeronautical publications online. At the stand, you can also order maps and charts from the online shop and save shipping costs. For example, you can order the ICAO aeronautical chart for Germany or charts of Austria, Belgium Denmark, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic with the same scale and layout.

In addition, the new functionalities of the AIS Portal will be presented at the exhibition: When users file their flight plans online, they can now specify that they would like to receive a pre-flight briefing immediately after the flight plan has been transmitted. In the case of flights according to instrument flight rules, pilots receive the relevant NOTAM information after the flight plan has been confirmed by the IFPS (EUROCONTROL). It is also still possible to receive the information three hours before the estimated off-block time (EOBT) – either in addition to or instead of the immediate response. This means that users automatically receive the NOTAM relevant to their route for the last 90 days via e-mail or fax. If earlier NOTAM are needed, they can be requested from the Aeronautical Information Service Centre (AIS-C) of DFS over the telephone.

It is now also possible to request a compilation of NOTAM for a certain event causing temporary restrictions to air traffic in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The menu item "NOTAM Briefings" in the "Highlights" field shows events, such as the UEFA European Championship in June or temporary restricted areas, for which NOTAM can be ordered.

Another new feature is the filing of arrival messages over the Internet or using mobile devices. Up until now, it has only been possible to file delay, change or cancellation messages of planned flights using the AIS Portal. With a short e-mail to ais-info@dfs.de , pilots can now obtain access to this functionality and then transmit their arrival messages online using the AIS Portal.

Should a user forget his password for the AIS Portal, he can automatically generate a new password – after having entered an incorrect one in the log-on window – with his user name. The new password is then immediately sent to his e-mail address. This means that it will no longer be necessary to wait for a new password, making the AIS Portal a state-of-the-art application.

There are plans for further functionalities and enhancements to the AIS Portal. One future offer will be particularly interesting for smaller air transport companies, for example from the business aviation sector, as it will be possible to copy their flight plans that were prepared in ICAO format into a free-text field, from where they are then automatically entered into the flight plan mask and sent to the AIS-C. This means that companies no longer have to enter planned flights individually into the flight plan form of the AIS Portal.
