New Internet service: The VFReBulletin

DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is extending its AIS Internet services with the VFReBulletin
This is an application for German-speaking VFR pilots which displays route-related NOTAM information during flight preparation for VFR flights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland both graphically and textually. Its most important feature is the simple and modern "quick-route dialogue". With this feature, the user can enter complex routes and retrieve desired information quickly and easily. Also, interactive charts – four different charts will be made available – allow the plotting of freely selected flight routes using waypoints. The NOTAM information relevant to the recognised flight route appears on the chart selected and can be either printed out or saved as a PDF file.

The new tool was already presented at the international trade exhibition AERO 2007, which allowed both demonstrations and actual use by our customers. A customer survey concerning this new service was very positive. 73% of the respondents answered "very good" when asked how they liked the option of a graphic display of route-related, currently valid NOTAM on the Internet. And 82% said that they would definitely use this new service of DFS.

In order to meet our customers' requests, the VFReBulletin has been tested over the course of trial operations lasting several months. Improvements have been made on the basis of the feedback of the many users who contributed.

On 31 August 2007, the VFReBulletin will become available free of charge in two versions in the AIS Portal under www.dfs-ais.de:
The classic version, suitable for users without a broadband connection, is the simplest way to access route-related information for VFR flights. Only HTML is used in this version – no JavaScript. The only requirement is the prior installation of PDF Reader for the display of the result list.
The Web 2.0 version, which gives its users the option of using an interactive chart, requires a JavaScript-capable browser and an Internet connection suitable for an interactive application (broadband).
