NOTAM information now just a few mouse clicks away

Electronic tool to replace the VFR Bulletin
At the beginning of 2008, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH will replace the printed VFR Bulletin with the free electronic version on the AIS homepage. Pilots currently have access to the latest NOTAM information for VFR flights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at www.dfs-ais.de. Online services are playing an ever-greater role in flight planning. Among the participants of a survey conducted at the AERO 2007, 80 per cent said they would use the new Internet service "in every case". From the beginning, the service has attracted a large number of online visitors. In September, when it first went online, it was already used over 10,000 times.

The information provided in the VFReBulletin is updated daily and may be retrieved for a specific route of flight online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Even complex routes can be easily entered and graphically displayed on four different interactive charts. NOTAM information is displayed as text blocks and at the relevant geographical points directly on the chart and can be easily printed and saved. Furthermore, users may search for information by entering a specific ICAO location indicator, a flight information region, a country or a radius around a certain point. Information may also be retrieved for a given day. If a flight is planned for next Sunday, for example, the pilot can find out immediately whether overflights over a certain area will be prohibited on that day.

In addition to the electronic VFR Bulletin, the AIS Centre provides additional assistance for flight preparation. The AIS Centre can be contacted by telephone at +49 (0)69 78072-500.

Subscribers to the VFR Bulletin will receive the last paper version on 31 January 2008. The last three issues in 2008 will be free of charge. Customers with subscriptions running beyond the last issue will receive credit notes corresponding to any resulting overpayments. Pilots who receive the VFR Bulletin as a bonus of the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP VFR) now have a price reduction to look forward to: At the beginning of 2008, the AIP VFR will cost € 5 less.
