Langen, 17 December 2007 Focusing on the future - Joint research project presented in Braunschweig
Together with its research partners, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH presented the results of the successful joint project "Cooperative Air Traffic Management (K-ATM)" in Braunschweig on 28 and 29 November 2007. The DFS-led research group focused on the topics of cooperative traffic planning and cooperative arrival and departure planning. According to the results of the project, improvements in both capacity and punctuality can be achieved via an increased networking of the processes of air navigation services, airlines and airports. In addition, the research group assessed ways to improve safety by networking ground-based and on-board safety nets. A ground-based augmentation system (GBAS) was developed in the framework of the project as a possible successor system to the instrument landing system in current use. Representatives of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Braunschweig, Fraport AG, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Thales ATM GmbH and delair Air Traffic Systems GmbH were involved in the project. The technical universities of Darmstadt, Berlin, Dresden and Braunschweig also participated. This cooperative project was funded by the third German aeronautical research programme of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,200 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights.
