Once again DFS controls over 800,000 flights in a quarter

Sustained growth in air transport
Air transport in Germany continued to experience growth in the third quarter of 2007. From July to September 2007, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH controlled a total of 853,271 flights. That means an increase of four per cent over the third quarter of 2006. The total number of flights controlled between January and September 2007 thus climbed to 2,355,606 – 4.3 per cent more than over the same period last year. By controlling 853,271 flights, the German air navigation services exceeded the 800,000 threshold for the third time in its history (as previously in the third quarter of 2006 and the second quarter of 2007).

Airports in Germany also benefited from this sustained growth. With 129,130 take-offs and landings, Frankfurt is once again the top airport in the third quarter of 2007 (+ 0.2 compared to the same period last year), followed by Munich with 113,114 take-offs and landings (+ 4.6 per cent). The Berlin airports together had the third highest traffic volume, followed by Düsseldorf and Hamburg. The sharpest increases compared to last year were recorded for Bremen airport (10,515 flights, + 19.6 per cent) and Leipzig/Halle (12,174 flights, + 17.4 per cent). Decreases were recorded, however, for Hannover (- 0.8 per cent), Dresden (- 2.1 per cent), Münster/Osnabrück (- 6.1 per cent) and Saarbrücken (- 6.7 per cent).

With 9,784 flights (+ 6.4 per cent), Frankfurt-Hahn is the highest ranking regional airport, followed by Dortmund (7,770 flights, + 8.6 per cent) and Paderborn/Lippstadt (6,184 flights, + 4.7 per cent). The regional airports with the highest growth rates are Neubrandenburg (+ 70.1 per cent), Niederrhein (+ 54.5 per cent) and Schwerin/Parchim (+ 45.1 per cent).
