DFS reduces route charges

Air traffic in Germany reaches an all-time high in 2005
On 1 January 2006, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH significantly lowered its air traffic control charges for enroute services by 11.5 per cent. This is the third consecutive reduction of route charges. A Boeing B737 flight from Hamburg to Munich, for example, will now only cost the airline € 536 in air traffic control charges instead of € 581. The enroute charge accounts for roughly two thirds of this amount. An Airbus A340 flight from Frankfurt to New York will now be charged € 601 instead of € 630 for flying through German airspace. Terminal charges, however, were slightly increased by 2.6 per cent.

Only 10 years ago, airlines were charged significantly higher rates for air navigation services. Today, enroute charges are 20 per cent and terminal charges 50 per cent below the rates of 1995. During the same period, traffic figures have grown. Over the past ten years, air traffic in Germany increased by 41 per cent. In 2005, traffic figures increased significantly. The traffic volume grew by 5.4 per cent from 2.72 million to 2.87 million aircraft movements. This rate of growth is clearly higher than the European average (approx. 4.3 per cent).

DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,200 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights.
