Langen, 28 August 2006 DFS and DWD consolidate services: Extended online offer, fewer services at airports
DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and the German Meteorological Service (DWD) are meeting their customers’ requests for extended, integrated services on the Internet. As early as next year, customers will be able to access the increasingly popular applications pc_met and AIS homebriefing via a joint Internet portal of DWD and DFS. Air traffic control charges cover the services offered by the two organisations. This prompted DWD and DFS to analyse the use of the briefing facilities at the 17 international airports in Germany. Due to the apparent underuse of these terminals, it was agreed with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs to save the money allocated to these facilities in the future and instead offer customers a more convenient, integrated briefing consisting of a meteorological briefing, pre-flight information service and flight plan filing service. The self-briefing terminals at the airports of Berlin-Tegel, Berlin-Tempelhof, Bremen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Hannover, Leipzig and Saarbrücken will be closed down on 1 January 2007. The self-briefing area at Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 2 (building 149, level 4) will be closed down on 14 September 2006, while the second self-briefing area in the General Aviation Terminal will remain open to our customers for the time being. The self-briefing area at Hamburg Airport, Terminal 2 (level 4), will be closed down on 1 October 2006, while the second self-briefing area in the General Aviation Terminal will remain open to our customers for the time being. In 2007, a decision will be made concerning the closure of the remaining briefing terminals. With this move, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and the German Meteorological Service are fulfilling their customers’ requests to improve online services and, at same time, cut costs. Since the beginning of this year, DFS has already been stepping up its service offer, as demonstrated by the following: * Since February, customers who have filed a flight plan or flight-plan-associated message via the Internet are automatically notified by e-mail that their requests are being processed in the AIS-C. * The AIP IFR, NfL and the AIRFIELD GUIDE Europe series are now available as downloads. * Since May, NOTAM are updated on the Internet every hour. * Since the end of July, each customer who files a flight plan or flight-plan-associated message via the Internet automatically receives an electronic status report about the acceptance or rejection of the request. The German Meteorological Service has also added to its service offer. Apart from the high-resolution satellite images of METEOSAT 8, up-to-date radar pictures from Spain and a number of meteograms from Europe are offered as part of the meteorological briefing. Visit www.flugwetter.de or www.dwd.de for more information on DWD services. For further information on our services, visit www.dfs-service.de or www.dfs-ais.de.
