Langen, 17 October 2006 Change in management
Frank Brenner is new Director Operations at DFS On 1 October 2006, Frank Brenner became the new Director Operations of the business unit Control Centre at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. In his new management position, Mr Brenner is responsible for 2,600 employees in the largest business unit at DFS. The key objective of the 45-year-old is to pursue strategic projects, such as the creation of so-called functional airspace blocks in cooperation with Germany’s neighbouring ANS organisations. Bearing this objective in mind and in the light of impending competition on the European market, he strives to enhance cost-effectiveness in addition to ensuring safety. He considers the merging of control centres, a project underway at DFS for many years now, as a major step towards increasing efficiency and productivity. Mr Brenner, who used to be an air traffic controller, has first-hand experience on the national and international air navigation services scene. In 1996/1997, he spent a year at the FAA in the US and was later put in charge of operations at DFS. He was subsequently President of the Board of the Spanish subsidiary GroupEAD Europe S.L. for six years and served as Director Operations of the DFS business unit Aeronautical Data Management from 2000 to 2006. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,200 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights. Staff coordinate around 10,000 aircraft movements in German airspace every day, and more than three million movements every year. With this large number of flights, Germany has the highest traffic volume in Europe. DFS operates control centres in Langen, Bremen, Karlsruhe and Munich. In addition, DFS is represented in the Eurocontrol Centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and in the control towers of the 16 international German airports. DFS provides training and consultancy services around the world and develops and sells air traffic control, surveillance and navigation systems. The company's portfolio also comprises flight-relevant data, aeronautical publications and aeronautical information services.
