New visual operation and aerodrome charts for Spain Aena (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea), the national Air Navigation and Airport Service Provider of Spain, and DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH cooperate in the production of harmonised VFR charts for Europe. The AIRFIELD GUIDE Spain is one of the products among the AIRFIELD GUIDE Europe Series featuring 43 aerodromes near cities with tourist attractions. A general as well as an enroute part provide all relevant details concerning VFR flights across Spain. "To offer harmonised VFR charts throughout Europe, is one of the most important issues increasing flight safety", says Javier Aldanondo, Head of AIS, Aena. A digital version of the AIRFIELD GUIDE Europe Series is available on the internet. "The AIRFIELD GUIDE Spain is a further important product to aviators, adding up to 10 AIRFIELD GUIDEs already available to the aviation community", says Frank Brenner, Director Aeronautical Data Management of DFS. The AIRFIELD GUIDE Europe Series is a joint product of the European Data Originators, the Air Navigation Service Providers Aena (Spain), DFS (Germany) and PATA (Poland) to enhance safety in VFR flying. It can also be downloaded from our download centre at www.airfield-guide.com at € 29.00. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,200 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights. Staff coordinate around 10,000 aircraft movements in German airspace every day, and more than three million movements every year. With this large number of flights, Germany has the highest traffic volume in Europe. DFS operates control centres in Langen, Bremen, Karlsruhe and Munich. The Public Business Entity Aena, created under that established in Section 82 of the General State Budget Act 4/1990 of 1990, is governed by that laid out in Royal Decree 905/1991 of 14 June approving the Articles of the Entity. As stated in Section 1 of its Articles, Aena will aim to “contribute towards the development of air transport in Spain and to guarantee safe, fluid, effective and economic air traffic, offering a service quality in line with customer and user demand, within the framework of the general transport policy of the Government”. Its objective, therefore, is to manage civil airports of general interest and the facilities and networks of air navigation assistance. The Public Business Entity Aena has its own legal character independent to that of the State, fully legal, public and private capacity and its own equity. Likewise, it is listed in the Ministry of Public Works that, in line with the mandate established by the Government, will establish its directives for action, approve the annual plan of objectives, monitor its activity and carry out, without prejudice to other authorities, the control of its efficiency in accordance with the regulations in force.
