Langen, 30 November 2005 DFS publishes ICAO Chart 1:500 000 for gliders
Recommended by the German Aero Club (DAeC) For the first time, DFS publishes the Aeronautical Chart ICAO 1:500,000 of Germany for glider pilots. This chart is recommended by the German Aero Club (DAeC). The gliding edition will be published together with the conventional aeronautical chart ICAO 1:500,000 in March 2006. In its series of aeronautical charts ICAO 1:500,000, DFS has already published specialised charts for night flying operations and gliding charts for competitions. With the aeronautical chart ICAO 1:500,000 for gliders, DFS is once again meeting customer requirements. The new official ICAO chart for gliders has the same high quality as the renowned aeronautical chart ICAO 1:500,000. Dr Angelika Machinek, who is responsible for flight competitions in the German Aero Club and holds a world record, has been flying with the ICAO chart for 30 years: "Its main advantage is its excellent display of the landscape and relief. The comprehensive information and the extensive legend are very helpful and valuable." But the chart also shows aeronautical information essential for glider pilots, such as the level in meters and airspace dimensions in meters and ft/FL. And it contains detailed information concerning gliding sites including elevation, length and direction of the runway and frequencies as well as the clear topography with the same look and feel as the conventional ICO chart. Due to its large number of turning points for gliding competitions, this chart is very well suited to competitions, long-distance and local glider flying. The aeronautical chart ICAO 1:500,000 glider edition comprises 8 charts. Further information can be downloaded from the "Aviation Shop" of our website www.dfs.de.
