Langen, 13 December 2005 Agreement reached in collective bargaining
DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and the controllers' association Gewerkschaft der Flugsicherung e.V. have concluded a collective agreement. The result is a 2.5 percent salary increase. Non-operational staff will, in addition, receive a one-time payment of 2 percent. Instead of a 2 percent one-time payment, staff working in operations in the air traffic control service, i.e. including air traffic controllers, will receive a 7 percent rise in their operational allowances and special allowances. This collective agreement will come into effect retrospectively on 1 November and will remain in effect for twelve months. The agreement was reached following an arbitration procedure led by the former Minister-President of the state of Saxony, Prof. Kurt Biedenkopf. DFS is satisfied with the outcome of the negotations. It takes due account of both the increase in traffic volume and the enhanced productivity in the company. However, DFS was unable to push through a salary structure with a greater focus on the company's success over several years. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and has 5,200 employees. DFS ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights. Staff coordinate around 10,000 aircraft movements in German airspace every day, and more than three million movements every year. With this large number of flights, Germany has the highest traffic volume in Europe. DFS operates control centres in Langen, Bremen, Karlsruhe and Munich. In addition, DFS is represented in the Eurocontrol Centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and in the control towers of the 16 international German airports. DFS provides training and consultancy services around the world and develops and sells air traffic control, surveillance and navigation systems. The company's portfolio also comprises flight-relevant data, aeronautical publications and aeronautical information services. DFS has the following business units: Control Centre, Tower, Aeronautical Solutions and Aeronautical Information Management.
