Airspace info and structure

Which services are available to airspace users in controlled airspace? Which rules apply in uncontrolled airspace? Which transponder regulations apply and where? This animation shows pilots how German airspace is structured.

On days with nice weather, more than 6,500 private pilots take off into the sky, with DFS accepting more than 50,000 VFR flight plans each year. DFS controllers also handle 3.1 million IFR aircraft movements every year.

This animation allows pilots to become familiar with the German airspace structure. It is also suitable as teaching material in flight training centres. Airspace users receive a quick and informative overview of the applicable flight rules for cross-country and international flights, at day and night time. By clicking on an airspace, the user will receive information about listening watch, maximum speed, distance from clouds, separation, special features of the airspace as well as about DFS services such as air traffic control or traffic information.
