SINGLE EUROPEAN SKY
The Single European Sky, or SES for short, is a programme being pursued by the European Commission since 1999 to reorganise the airspace and harmonise the air navigation services in Europe. This means that airspaces should be organised according to main traffic flows instead of national borders, as is the case today. The new airspaces are called functional airspace blocks (FABs). SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) is the technological dimension of SES. This is a public private partnership (PPP) between the EU, EUROCONTROL and 15 project partners from the aviation industry, such as DFS, Airbus and Thales. The aim of this partnership is to harmonise European ATM technologies over the coming seven years.
